The Globe Trotter looks pretty substantial. I'm definitely going to invest in a GlobeTrotter. Im not a big fan of the twist legs, not sure if it's just me, because my other one had the lever type. It's not the greatest, but it will work for awhile. I picked up a Prima Photo Small Travel Tripod on clearance for $50. The RoadTrip fits in a standard carry on case easily, and we didn't have any problems taking it to and around South Africa. The RoadTrip was the best I found in terms of size, weight, quality and price. Yes, the GlobeTrotter is a bit sturdier, but you have other compromises. I don't use a tripod very often, and when I do I want to carry it with the minimum of fuss, so size and weight were very important. I looked at both the RoadTrip and the GlobeTrotter, and in the end went with the RoadTrip. To save size and weight, you're taking a big step down to the Roadtrip, but it designed similarly. That would make a "good" all-purpose travel tripod. In the Mefoto line, it should be the Globetrotter you look at first. Am I allowed to have it in my camera bag or does it need to go in my checked bag? I would like something that folds down pretty small for traveling. The ones I've been looking at are: MeFoto Backpacker, Oben AC-1441, Vanguard VEO 235AB, Oben AC-1341 and MeFoto Roadtrip. Ive been looking at tripods, I have a cheap one(it was a gift), that I'm using for a class. ![]()
